Art 1 Final Exam

Q: When working on your art in this course you had a range of choices in each project.  This was the first year Apex’s art department used the “Open Art Room.” Do you feel that this range and choice encouraged you to grow as an artist? Please explain how it did, if not, explain how it in.

A: I actually did because before I took the class I never really was that big into making and spray painting stencils and once I found out that I found out that I could use whatever I wanted on my projects I chose to make stencils of most of my projects. In the end I found out how easy, how much i liked them, and how fun they were to make.

Q: Choose a place or artwork where the subject matter reflects you as an artist.  One that you have a personal connection to.  Please explain.

A: Well I'm not too sure if this is answering the question the way you wanted but, when i was making the retro project i really liked it because i like a lot of the retro themed things, like how in the stencil I made the kid had a sailors hat and sailors close and was drinking a retro style of drink and was just cool all around. Also making the stencils themselves were fun, i used to make some not as good ones and I would have a little fun with it but i never knew what to make so i just stopped but once I had a theme to choose from than it got a lot more interesting.

Q: Regardless of whether you liked or disliked a project, which one did you learn, grow, or developed the most from?  Please explain.

A: I actually seemed to like all of the projects, even though a lot of them I never turned in. I enjoyed the all of the stencils i made and I also enjoyed the prints we made, so that was fun. I think what I improved on the most was probably cutting out the stencils. Before I would try and cut without a cutting board and once I saw you had some in your class room I went out and bought one. I also improved on drawing a little bit, I used to be god awful at drawing but after your class I think i improved a bit.

Q: Medium: which medium did you most enjoy working with and why? Which medium did you not use but wish you had explored? Include photo.

A: I really enjoyed spray paint, I used this example a lot but because I liked it a lot. I think I liked it a lot because it just felt natural, also it was pretty easy to get a hang of. What i really loved about it was that if you were to mess up a little bit you could easily fix it by placing paper over the part you wanted to keep and just spray over it. One medium I wish I could explore more would probably have to be pen and inc or graphite. I just really like the way they turn out. I liked how with the pen and inc you would make a picture out of just using a bunch of dots. What I liked about graphite was that you didn't have to worry if you where to mess up, you could just easily erase it with no problem.
